InterAct offers three different kinds of internships: Summer literary internships, full-season general internships, and Education Internships. Both the summer literary internships and the full-season general internships at InterAct involve a modest component of general company work, including but not limited to data entry, mailings, online research, and assistance in marketing and audience development.

SUMMER LITERARY DEPARTMENT INTERNSHIPS
Summer Literary Internships generally occur over a two-to-three-month internship starting in late May/early June and running through early-mid August. These internships consist of three primary sets of activities:
- Dramaturgical research
- Script reading and evaluation
- General administration
Each of four interns is required to prepare a book of dramaturgical research on one of the plays that InterAct will be presenting in its upcoming season. These books, which require library and on-line research, are guided projects under the supervision of InterAct’s Literary Director & Dramaturge. Dramaturgical activities also include preparing and helping to conduct interviews with season playwrights. Script reading and evaluation involves reading and writing "coverage" (synopsis and evaluation) of between 30-50 plays submitted to us for consideration. These evaluations are discussed at weekly meetings. General administration involves 5-10 hours/week in the office doing everything from help on special projects to assistance in marketing and audience development to office work to venue improvements. The internship is aimed at current undergraduates, and attracts students from all disciplines of theater, including dramaturgy, directing, and playwriting.
In order to apply, please send a statement of interest and a resume to Rebecca Wright, Literary Director via email. Please apply by March 15 to be considered for the upcoming summer.
FULL SEASON INTERNSHIP
InterAct offers full season internships to two very qualified recent graduates of BA or BFA programs. More comprehensive than the summer literary department internships, the full season internship aims to give the candidates experience working in all aspects of running a small theatre company, and may be tailored to fit the interests of the candidate (directing, playwriting, dramaturgy, literary management, educational outreach, design, marketing, management). Production opportunities include the chance to work as an assistant director, assistant stage manager, assistant designer, sound/light board operator or run crew on any or all of our four main stage productions. Interns are generally involved as readers in the literary department, including submissions for the 20/20 Commissions, and assist in production dramaturgy for main stage productions. The administrative portion of the internship will involve working closely with InterAct’s marketing and audience services directors on day-to-day tasks such as subscription work, data entry/listserv maintenance, marketing research, and assistance with mailings. The intern will also help in the planning and coordination of special events. A great internship for recent graduates in any discipline of theater.
While the internship is unpaid, there are many opportunities for paid work available as corollaries to the base internship. These include working as house manager, assistant stage manager, board operator, dresser, and other positions. The internship is part time and generally flexible, designed to accommodate an intern’s work schedule, should an intern choose to hold another job during the internship.
In order to apply, please send a statement of interest and a resume to Rebecca Wright, Literary Director via email. Please apply by May 1 for consideration in the upcoming academic year.

EDUCATION INTERNSHIPS
Education Internships provide the opportunity to learn and work in Educational outreach. InterAct's educational outreach program, InterAction, works with a divers population including: at-risk and adjudicated youth, teen mothers and their babies, visually-impaired and hearing impaired individuals, as well as high school and college students and senior citizens, generally in residencies lasting up to two months. (Please see the more detailed description of the work of InterAct's Education Department elsewhere on this site.) Duties of an education department intern include assisting the InterAct Education Director in both teaching residencies and office work. Education Interns at InterAct will experience elements of grant writing, program planning and program assessment, and will have an opportunity to work in performance and scriptwriting in our residencies. Candidates should have a balance of interest/experience in theater and some teaching experience. The time commitment of the education department internship is flexible, though we would like a commitment for at least the length of one residency. For more information contact Education Director Dwight Wilkins by calling 215-568-8077 or via email.
